Sodium Hypochlorite

Sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is a chlorine-releasing compound supplied as an aqueous solution. When diluted in water it generates hypochlorous acid, providing broad-spectrum disinfection. It is one of the oldest and most widely used chlorine disinfectants, but its concentration can degrade over time and varies between batches and storage conditions.

Because it is a liquid concentrate, sodium hypochlorite requires careful manual measurement to achieve the correct in-use concentration. Small errors in pouring, water volume or measuring vessels can lead to inconsistent chlorine strength between preparations and shifts.

Used in healthcare cleaning, laundry, water treatment, food processing and general institutional disinfection, often as an alternative to tablet-based systems such as NaDCC.
