Contact Time

Contact time (also called dwell time or wet time) is the interval between applying a disinfectant and the surface drying. Manufacturer efficacy claims are only valid if the full contact time is met.

A surface wiped and immediately dried is cleaned, not disinfected. Skipping contact time is one of the most common disinfection failures in the field.

For 1,000 ppm NaDCC solutions, allow 5–10 minutes of wet contact on hard surfaces. Re-apply if the surface dries before the time elapses.
