Definition
Target concentration is the intended dose of active ingredient in a prepared disinfectant solution. For chlorine-based disinfectants it is usually expressed in parts per million (PPM) of available chlorine. The correct target depends on the surface, the level of soiling, the pathogens of concern and applicable guidelines—there is no single universal PPM.
Why it matters
Under-dilution weakens disinfection; over-dilution wastes chemical, increases odour, and may damage surfaces. Consistently hitting the target concentration is the goal of any professional dilution programme.
