It is commonly used in healthcare facilities, commercial buildings, food processing environments, hospitality, offices, schools, and homes as part of a structured cleaning and disinfection programme. Unlike general-purpose cleaning sprays, a disinfectant spray is formulated with active ingredients that are effective against specific microorganisms when used according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Why it matters

Disinfectant sprays work by depositing the disinfectant solution evenly across a surface. Depending on the active ingredient, the disinfectant may damage microbial cell structures, disrupt essential biological functions, or inactivate microorganisms, reducing the risk of disease transmission. However, spraying alone does not disinfect a surface. For a disinfectant spray to work effectively, several factors must be controlled: 1. The surface should be appropriately cleaned if visibly soiled. 2. The disinfectant should be applied at the correct concentration. 3. The entire surface should be adequately covered. 4. The disinfectant should remain on the surface for the recommended contact time. 5. The product should be used according to the manufacturer's instructions.
