Blood Spill Management

Blood spill management is the protocol used to neutralise and remove blood or other potentially infectious body fluids from surfaces. It typically involves containing the spill, applying a high-strength chlorine disinfectant (commonly 10,000 ppm available chlorine), allowing adequate contact time, and disposing of contaminated materials as clinical waste.

Blood and body fluids can carry bloodborne pathogens including hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV. Correct spill management protects staff, patients, and visitors from exposure and cross-contamination.
