## Definition

A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is a written document describing the exact steps, materials, and safety requirements needed to complete a specific task. In disinfection, SOPs cover product selection, dilution, contact time, PPE, and disposal — ensuring every operator produces the same outcome regardless of shift, department, or experience level.

## Why it matters

Disinfection outcomes depend on repeatability. SOPs reduce human variability, simplify training, support audits, and make it easier to investigate and correct problems when they occur.

## Practical applications

Preparing NaDCC solutions to a specific PPM, cleaning blood spills, terminal cleaning of isolation rooms, and stock rotation of chemical inventory.
