# Disinfection

A process that eliminates most pathogenic microorganisms on inanimate surfaces, excluding bacterial spores.

## Definition

Disinfection reduces vegetative bacteria, viruses, and fungi to safe levels on surfaces. It is not the same as sterilisation, which eliminates all microbial life including spores.

## Why it matters

Correct disinfection breaks the chain of infection in healthcare, food, and industrial settings. It requires the right chemistry, concentration, and contact time.

## Practical applications

Pre-clean the surface, apply disinfectant at the specified ppm, and observe full contact time before drying.
