# Disinfectant Tablet

A solid, pre-measured tablet — often effervescent — that dissolves in water to produce a ready-to-use disinfectant solution.

## Definition

Disinfectant tablets typically contain a chlorine-releasing agent such as sodium dichloroisocyanurate (NaDCC). Each tablet is manufactured to release a specific amount of available chlorine when dissolved in a stated volume of water, producing hypochlorous acid as the active biocidal species. Tablets are compact, lightweight, and stable in their dry form compared with equivalent liquid concentrates.

## Why it matters

Tablet formats simplify preparation, reduce reliance on manual dilution, and lower transport and storage costs by removing the water component from shipped product. They also help standardise solution strength across users and locations.

## Practical applications

Used for surface disinfection, blood and body-fluid spill management, terminal cleaning, food-contact surface sanitisation, and general hard-surface disinfection. Deployed in healthcare, education, food service, hospitality, and emergency-response settings.
